Story

In the year 1000 in Iceland, honor is the most valuable currency. A man’s honor is worth more than his life, and a family’s honor is worth more than a man’s.
In such a harsh world, there are two weapons for defending that honor: the law and the blade. Both are available to Njáll Thorgeirsson, a savvy landowner jockeying for position among the leading men of south Iceland. Learned lawyer Njáll has the brains to keep his family on top, but he leaves the brawn to his warrior son Skarphédinn. When Njáll’s younger sons return from adventures abroad bringing with them a new friend and a new enemy, will Njáll’s strategy and Skarphédinn’s axe be enough to keep the family’s honor intact this time? Or will Njáll’s own heavy hand end up tearing his family apart from the inside?
"Njálsson" is a new adaptation of one of the most famous Icelandic sagas, Brennu-Njál’s Saga, a masterpiece of medieval literature with a reputation for colorful characters, tight plotting, dry humor, and epic scope.

K. H. Morrow has a PhD in Medieval History with a specialization in the early medieval period. She has also been an artist since childhood, fascinated by animation and manga. She first read Brennu-Njál’s Saga as a sophomore in college and remembered nothing from it but Skarphédinn jumping the Markarfljót and Thráinn’s teeth scattering on the ice. Reading it again years later, something new clicked, and she suddenly wanted to draw everything. The road from there has been a long one.
